On February 25, 2016, at IEA Member Meeting,, SDG&E’s Estela de Llanos provided an overview of a major new natural gas project the company has proposed to construct to enhance safety and reliability in the San Diego region. The Pipeline Safety & Reliability Project (PSRP) is a proposed 47-mile, natural gas transmission pipeline from the Rainbow Metering Station near the Riverside County line to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar.

The proposed pipeline would implement pipeline safety requirements as well as improve energy reliability and resiliency by minimizing dependence on a single pipeline and modernizing the system. Additionally, the PSRP would enhance operational flexibility to manage stress conditions on the natural gas system by increasing system capacity.

SDG&E and SoCalGas filed the joint application in September 2015 and have requested approval by 2017 by the California Public Utilities Commission to be able to put the pipeline into service in 2020.
