On February 22, 2023, IFMA San Diego invited members to tour the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD). MCASD’s flagship location in La Jolla has newly expanded collection galleries, special exhibitions, sculpture garden, a shop and more. Since opening in 1941, the museum has undergone multiple expansions. This location reopened in April 2022 after being closed for a $105 million renovation project. The renovation quadrupled the gallery space, allowing the museum to offer much more to attendees.
The tour was led by the museum’s Director of Facilities, James Patocka. James has been with the organization for the last 20 years and is an expert on all things MCASD. During the tour, he provided insight into the planning, challenges, goals and other elements associated with the development and management of this most recent project. After the tour, members enjoyed the beautiful sunset view over happy hour.
