Presidents Letter

Dear San Diego Chapter Members,

I want to first thank you for your continued trust in the leadership of the San Diego Chapter and for allowing me to guide the Chapter for this next year. I also want to thank our outgoing President, Bob Wiley, for his guidance over the last year. His calm demeanor and wisdom have helped the Chapter continue to grow steadily.

This year, we have one new member being added to the executive board. Donna Frick is serving as Vice President 2. I have had the pleasure of working with Donna over the last 3 years as Co-Chair of the Communications Committee. Her dedication to IFMA and to the facility management profession is shown by her 12+ years of chapter membership, and by the fact that she is the only San Diego Chapter member that holds all three of IFMA’s certifications: FMP, CFM, and SFP.

Lisa Chappell, another dedicated IFMA member, will move to Vice President 1 and continue her role as Co-Chair of our award-winning Educational & Professional Development Committee. Her leadership skills and forward-thinking continue to be a great asset to this Chapter. Gayle Lorenc will continue her role as the Chapter’s dependable Treasurer for the sixth year. Michael Acosta will stay as the Chapter’s reliable Secretary for the second year. Caryn Worcester will continue work as the Chapter’s amazing Administrator.

As we progress into the 2014 – 2015 fiscal year, our focus is to strengthen the communication between IFMA International and our Chapter. We are also reaching out to other chapters to share knowledge with them and implement new strategies that have been proven to work for those chapters.

Our educational events will remain an important aspect of our Chapter’s goals, and we will continue to host events that are beneficial and educational to our Professional Members (PM’s) and Industry Partners (IP’s).

Another objective this year is to create a closer connection between our PM’s and our IP’s. We would like our PM’s to look at our IP’s first when they need professional services. One way we are doing that is by hosting a Reverse Tradeshow in October where IP’s can sit and talk with PM’s face to face to describe the services they provide. Our ultimate goal is for our PM’s to “Buy IFMA” and use the services of the providers that are members of the Chapter and serve on our committees.

I look forward to a great year of growth for our Chapter.

Regards,
David Suter, CFM
