Company Spotlight: Brad Stoner Painting
(An Owner’s Perspective)
Our company started back in 1986 – exactly 30 years ago! A few years prior, I had sold my portion of Jack’s Fruit Market, packed up my bags and moved from Oklahoma to San Diego.
San Diego is the city where I met by beautiful wife Angie and reluctantly became a painter. Because God has a sense of humor (and life is always full of surprises), I eventually bought the painting company I was working for when the owner moved to Texas. We started out painting apartments and expanded into painting houses and commercial properties. The rest, as they say, is history.
What was the best advice you ever received in your career?
I can think of a few!
“Get out of debt.”
“You are not the most important person working at your company.”
“Hire people who are better than you.”
“Everyone is replaceable.”
How many people does your company employ?
We proudly employ 34 people (and we are growing), some of whom have been with us over 20 years.
Our Business Development Manager, Rachel, participates in many of the IFMA San Diego events and volunteers with the Community Service and Communications committees. Fun fact: Rachel was married this last May and you can now call her “Rachel Willis!”
What is your number one priority to provide as a contractor?
My number one priority is to provide honest and timely communication to my customers. Especially when dealing with facilities professionals, we realize that projects don’t always require a personal, monetary investment but instead: a time investment.
What is your favorite “after hours” hobby?
Two things: I enjoy teaching Sunday School for 4th-6th grade boys and girls as well as giving away reading glasses overseas.
