What is the most influential book you ever read? Why?

I’m a voracious reader, so it would be very difficult to narrow it down to a single book. Work related – I read a lot about leadership, team building, efficiency and effective communication. For pleasure I like all different kinds of fiction, as long as it’s well written. Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand was an early favorite when I was a teen and a book that I’ve reread a number of times.

What was the best advice you ever received in your career?

Focus your energy on the things you can control, either in part or wholly. If you can’t control it, let it go.

What is your biggest pet peeve at your job?

Unresponsiveness. Everyone is busy these days, but it’s just common courtesy to respond, even just to say, “I can’t focus on this right now, but I’ll get to it by…”

What is your favorite “after hours” hobby? Why?

Not surprisingly, I’m very social. I’m in a book club, card group, neighborhood Bunco set, dog walking faction, I play tennis and love to host parties. If I’m actually at home for more than a night or two it’s a slow week!

What is one of the oddest resources you have needed during your career in facility management?

I’d have to say that my FM team has provided the most unusual resources. Fishing out keys from the elevator shaft, evicting a tenant that was using one of our properties for illegal use, sending out communications about bizarre behavior, like employees eating other peoples’ food…It’s never a dull moment in FM, which is why we love it.

What is your personal secret to success or personal motto?

Just say yes. Yes, I’m happy to take on that project. Yes, that responsibility would be a great fit for the FM team! Yes, we can help you. Yes, yes, yes. Even if I can’t do exactly what you want, I’ll do my best to find a way to meet your needs. As a result, I’m never bored and am blessed with a never ending opportunity for learning.

What is your favorite time of the year and why?

Summer. I love the sun, beach, and outdoors.

If you were to sum yourself up in one word, what word would that be?

One word?! Optimistic.
